You had a great conversation at an event. You swapped details. They said they'd look you up.

And then they land on your LinkedIn profile… and it reads like a job description from 2021🤯

That moment when someone checks your profile after meeting you? That's where many networking momentum dies a quiet death...

Let's fix that.

Make Your Headline Do the Talking

Your headline is the first thing people see when they search for you after an event. If it just says your job title and company name, you're leaving it up to them to figure out why you're worth staying connected with.

Instead, lead with what you help people do.

Compare these two:

vs.

The second one reminds them exactly why that event conversation mattered. It gives them a reason to hit Connect.

Write Your About Section Like a Warm Introduction

Think of your About section as the next thing you'd say if your event conversation kept going. Not a list of achievements. A short, clear explanation of what you care about, who you work with, and what you're good at.

A few lines that feel like you will always do more than five paragraphs that sound like everyone else.

Start with a sentence about the problem you solve or the work that gets you out of bed. Then add a line or two about who you typically help. End with how people can reach you or work with you.

You're not writing your entire life story. You're making it easy for someone to say, "Yes, this is the person I met, and here's why I should keep talking to them."

Let Your Activity Back It Up

When someone visits your profile after meeting you, they'll glance at your recent activity. If there's nothing there, or the last thing you posted was a job anniversary from eight months ago, it sends a quiet signal: this person isn't really active here.

You don't need to post every day. But showing up regularly with a thought on something in your industry, or leaving a real comment on someone else's post, gives people a reason to stay connected instead of letting you fade into their network.

Quick Profile Checklist

Before your next event, run through these:

Does your headline say what you do and who you help (not just your job title)?

Does your About section sound like you talking, not a corporate bio?

Is your profile photo recent, professional and approachable?

Is your LinkedIn banner acting like your billboard (not the default version)?

Have you posted or commented on something in the last 2 weeks?

Does your Featured section highlight work that backs up what you'd say at an event?

Would someone who just met you look at your profile and think, "Yep, that's the person I spoke to"?

If you checked most of those, you're in good shape. If not, you know where to start.

Magnet Move

Screenshot the top part of your profile (which includes your headline, existing banner and photo) aka the most important LinkedIn real estate on your profile, and upload it to your preferred LLM. Then ask it to assess it for visual impact and credibility, before asking for suggestions for improvement.
